• Burger King deploys AI “Patty” to coach employees in real time

According to The Verge, Burger King is piloting an AI assistant called Patty, an OpenAI-powered tool embedded directly into employee headsets.

It’s part of the broader “BK Assistant” platform rolling out across U.S. locations.

    What Patty actually does:

    • Helps staff with menu prep instructions
    • Flags inventory shortages & equipment issues
    • Syncs with cloud POS systems
    • Listens for service phrases like “please,” “welcome,” and “thank you”

The system is powered by models from OpenAI and is currently being tested in 500 restaurants.

Burger King says it’s a coaching tool, not a punishment system.

The bigger shift? AI isn’t replacing workers here, it’s supervising them.

  • 馃棧Sam Altman says the cost of AI intelligence has dropped 1,000x in 18 months

What used to cost $1,000 on the OpenAI API now costs about $1. Not sure we can achieve another 1,000x cost drop in the next 18 months, but the goal is still to push the cost of intelligence as close to zero as possible.

  • 鉂楋笍Everyone’s saying OpenAI got the “same deal” Anthropic was banned for. Read the fine print. They’re not the same:

    On weapons:
Anthropic asked for “no fully autonomous weapons without human oversight” = a human involved in the decision.

OpenAI’s deal says “human responsibility for the use of force” = someone accountable, which can happen after the fact.

Oversight ≠ Responsibility. One requires a human before the trigger. The other requires a name on the paperwork after.

    On surveillance:
Dario said explicitly: current law hasn’t caught up with AI. The government can already buy your movement data, browsing history, etc without a warrant. AI can assemble that into a complete picture of your life, at scale. That’s mass surveillance without breaking a single law.

Anthropic wanted protections beyond current law.

OpenAI’s deal says the Pentagon “reflects them in law and policy.” That’s existing law as the safeguard, the exact law Anthropic said is insufficient.

    Same words. Different
